About Us
A Nanaimo Veterinarian You Can Trust
Locally Owned Veterinary Care in Nanaimo Since 2021
Coastal City Animal Hospital is a locally owned, full-service veterinary clinic located at #105, 1849 Dufferin Crescent in Central Nanaimo, British Columbia. The clinic serves dog and cat families across Central Vancouver Island and has been registered with the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia since 2021.
Owned and led by Dr. Jaskaran Mand, our team focuses exclusively on dogs and cats so we can deliver depth rather than breadth. We hold Full Accreditation from the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia and operate seven days a week with weekday hours until 7 p.m., which makes us easier to reach than most Mid-Island clinics. In-house orthopaedic surgery, digital imaging, and same-day urgent capacity round out a small-clinic feel with hospital-level capability.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions Nanaimo Pet Owners Ask Us Most
My pet has an emergency in Nanaimo, what should I do?
Call Coastal City Animal Hospital at (778) 441-3989 during our clinic hours of Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our team triages urgent and emergency cases as they arrive and accepts same-day visits for urgent matters during open hours. The faster we hear from you, the faster we can prepare for your pet’s arrival.
Are you open on Sundays and late on weekdays?
Yes. We are open seven days a week. Weekdays we are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. That makes us one of the few Mid-Island clinics with consistent weekend and after-work availability for routine and urgent visits.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes. We welcome new dog and cat families in Nanaimo and the surrounding Mid-Island communities. Call (778) 441-3989 or use our online booking form to schedule a first visit. We will collect your pet’s history and book a wellness exam to get acquainted.
Do you serve pet owners from Lantzville, Parksville, and Ladysmith?
Yes. While our clinic is based in Central Nanaimo on Dufferin Crescent, we regularly see pet owners travelling in from Lantzville, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Ladysmith, and Cedar. Easy access from the Island Highway and on-site parking make the visit straightforward.
Do you accept pet insurance?
Yes. We work with most major pet insurance providers in Canada. Payment is collected at the time of service, and we provide itemized invoices that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement. If you have a specific carrier in mind, call ahead and our team will confirm any provider-specific paperwork.
What species do you see?
We are a dog and cat exclusive practice. Focusing on two species lets our team deepen our medical, dental, and surgical expertise rather than spread it thin. For pocket pets, birds, reptiles, or exotics, we are glad to recommend a Mid-Island colleague who sees those species.
Do you help with international pet travel paperwork?
Yes. Our team handles destination-country health certificates, rabies titre timing, microchip verification, and CFIA endorsement coordination for dogs and cats flying internationally. Many of our Pet Travel clients drive in from across the Lower Mainland because the paperwork needs a vet team that knows the workflow.
